Kakejiku Tanzaku Powder Blue & Indigo

15.5 × 80 cm

Japan

For the tanzaku format, from 6 to 7.5 cm wide (36 cm tall): a narrow shape once used to carry a single haiku, hung for the length of a season.

A pale, powdery blue runs along the left side, then gives way to a deep indigo night on the right, like dusk closing over water.

Our Japanese artisan selected the fabrics and hand-mounted the piece following hyōgu, the traditional art of scroll mounting. Black lacquered end caps, twisted hanging cord.

This colourway belongs to a small ongoing series (also available in green and amber), found again rather than only once. A quiet companion for a tokonoma or a Japanese-inspired interior.

Tanzaku shown (7.5 × 36 cm) for illustration only, not included with this kakejiku. To choose an existing tanzaku or place a fully custom order, contact L’Œuvre au Noir.
